A wide area network (WAN) is a data network, usually used for connecting office network to the internet network. WAN interface can be configured on firewall, Router or switch on specific dedicated port. WAN Interfaces can configure with three different types of IP Assignment named as Static WAN Interface where Static IP Addresses are manually configured IP Addresses, DHCP WAN Interface where DHCP provides dynamic IP address assignment from a pool of available IP addresses and PPPoE WAN Interface. PPPoE is used by ISPs for dynamically assigning IP addresses to the PPPoE clients. The PPPoE client and server are connected by Layer 2 bridging protocols that run over a broadband connection.
